Many Proxy Products, Wide Quality Gap

The number of proxy IP providers continues to grow, from large integrated platforms to individually operated relay nodes. Marketing claims like "elite anonymity," "stable connection," and "massive IP pool" are difficult to verify before you actually pay and start using the service. All too often, users discover low connectivity, frequent timeouts, or target site blocks only after committing to a purchase.

This article takes a hands-on approach, using two test tools to benchmark 5 16Yun proxy products against 3 industry reference platforms:

  • Python httpx: Measures connectivity, response time, and concurrency stability
  • Obscura headless browser: Tests real-world block rates in scraping scenarios

Data comes from 72 hours of continuous testing, with rounds every 6 hours covering both weekdays and weekends.

Test Environment and Metrics

Tool 1: Python httpx Connectivity Test

The test script uses Python's httpx library for async concurrent requests:

For each test subject:
  1. Randomly select 10 exit IPs from the pool
  2. Send 10 requests per IP to the test target (100 total)
  3. Record status code and response time for each request
  4. Gradually increase concurrency (1 to 5 to 10 to 20), track success rate

Five target sites were chosen: Baidu, Taobao, JD.com, Zhihu, and GitHub, covering search, e-commerce, content, and developer platforms.

Tool 2: Obscura Headless Browser Scraping Test

Connectivity tests alone only verify network reachability. Some proxies that work perfectly with simple HTTP requests get blocked when accessed through a headless browser — anti-bot systems at the target site detect the automation pattern.

Test procedure:

For each test subject:
  1. Start Obscura headless browser through the proxy (Stealth mode enabled)
  2. Visit each of the 5 test targets
  3. Verify the returned content is a normal page
  4. Detect CAPTCHA, JS Challenge, or 403 responses
  5. Repeat 10 times, calculate average block rate

Obscura's Stealth mode enables TLS fingerprint spoofing and hides navigator.webdriver, closely simulating real Chrome browser characteristics. A proxy that still triggers blocks under this configuration lacks the IP purity needed for scraping.

Industry Reference Platforms (Anonymous)

Platform A: An established comprehensive proxy platform positioned as enterprise-grade SaaS. Product line covers tunnel proxy, API proxy, and short-lived IPs. Large IP pool and mature documentation. Pricing at the mid-to-high end of the market. Marketing emphasizes years of experience, enterprise client base, and compliance credentials.

Platform B: A traffic-billed proxy platform centered on short-lived dynamic IPs. Offers pay-as-you-go, hourly, and volume-based plans. Heavy promotional activity with frequent discount campaigns. IP pool consists mainly of short-duration IPs suited for temporary scraping tasks and price-sensitive users.

Platform C: A low-cost, flexible proxy service. Focuses on short-duration and static IPs sold in fine-grained time segments. Documentation is relatively minimal, with shared IPs present in some channels. Suitable for budget-constrained testing and prototype validation.

Test Results

Verdict: Lowest latency across all tested products. The short-connection model excels in scenarios requiring fast response. High IP purity keeps block rates low in scraping environments.

16Yun Dedicated Proxy

MetricResult
Connectivity99.5%
P50 latency0.6s
P95 latency1.3s
Concurrency 10 success rate99.2%
Target block rate0.1%
CAPTCHA trigger rate0.3%

Verdict: Best overall performance among all tested subjects. Fixed IP exit provides maximum purity. Target sites rarely block dedicated IPs. Ideal for social media management and sensitive data collection.

16Yun Scheduled Proxy

MetricResult
Connectivity98.9%
P50 latency0.9s
P95 latency2.2s
Concurrency 10 success rate97.5%
Target block rate0.6%
CAPTCHA trigger rate1.0%

Verdict: Reliable scheduled switching with precise timing. Regular IP rotation helps build a stable request profile at target sites. Suitable for periodic price monitoring and data comparison tasks.

16Yun Overseas Residential Proxy

MetricResult
Connectivity97.2%
P50 latency1.8s
P95 latency3.5s
Concurrency 10 success rate95.8%
Target block rate0.3%
CAPTCHA trigger rate0.5%

Verdict: Highest anonymity level among all tested types. Target sites rarely block residential IPs. Latency is naturally higher due to physical distance, best suited for overseas data collection tasks that prioritize stealth over speed.

16Yun products significantly outperform industry references across connectivity, latency, and concurrency. Dedicated proxy leads in most dimensions, API proxy has the lowest latency, and overseas residential has the lowest block rate. All three reference platforms show substantially higher block and CAPTCHA rates, limiting their usefulness in headless browser scenarios.

Self-Verification Tips

Before committing to a purchase, run these three tests:

Step 1: Connectivity test. Send 100 consecutive requests. Skip any provider below 90%.

Step 2: Target site test. Access your actual target sites through the proxy. Verify normal content delivery without CAPTCHAs.

Step 3: Headless browser test. For scraping and automation scenarios, route Obscura or Puppeteer through the proxy. This often reveals issues that simple HTTP tests miss.

A minimum 24-hour test cycle is recommended, covering different time periods.

Summary

Across 72 hours of continuous testing, all five 16Yun proxy products significantly outperform industry reference platforms in connectivity, latency, concurrency, and headless browser compatibility. The dedicated proxy delivers the best overall performance, the API proxy offers the lowest latency, and the tunnel proxy provides the best balance of performance and cost.

Regardless of which product you choose, testing with your actual use case before purchase is the best way to make the right decision.
